Since the late 1990s So:ren Berner has adressed topics such
as prejudice, immigration, exclusion, globalization, social and
psychic systems, public space and cultural diversity. The investigative
character that goes hand in hand with the process instead of
finished conclusions plays a central role in his works that
evolves in performances, drawings, installations and prints.
So:ren's drawings, prints and installations is often created
in connection with the process to his performances which, as a
contrast to an action filled, time limited show, offers
another entrance to understand and identify with. By using inspiration
from the performances that might have passed into oblivion,
So:ren creates his own flourishing idiom, marrying an intuitive
delight in the visual with a critical edge.
The exhibited prints, drawings and objects from So:ren has
evolved parallel with the latest performance project
"KARGOLOGY"* which investigates information patterns
in public space as well as the ways individuals experience
the constant flow of information in the city.

Berlin - 30. Oct - 2008 - Fear Generator >>Performance Program<<
A performance by So:ren Berner and Christian Falsnaes.
The role of expectancy in generated fear reflects the minds of those who benefit from the moral hazard. Irrational panic-reactions in our society demonstrate the generated fear surrounding us.
In this performance a self-constructed fear forms the base of the scenery, striving to expose a pseudo-rational fear which in this case is constructed in an art context.
The institutional frame in which this performance takes place is a mere reflection of the ever-increasing amount and need for institutionalized fear and moral panic in an indifferent society.

”Det er muligt, at der indtræder en skade i fremtidige
nutider – det er også muligt, at der ikke gør. At man ikke ved det med
sikkerhed i den aktuelle nutid, men må beskrive det som en usikkerhed
ved dens aktuelle fremtid, er i mange henseender en skade allerede i
nutiden. Man er bekymret, man føler sig utilpas, man forebygger, man
påtager sig omkostninger, som muligvis vil vise sig at have været unødvendige.
Uanset om de eventuelle skader indtræder i kommende nutider eller ej,
er de under alle omstændigheder skadelige allerede nu”.
